Emma Mitchell, MCIS, BS, PMP
Emma Mitchell is the founder of InspireHER STEM, an international mentoring program, and a charitable trust in Kenya with the Amazing Grace Center Kenya CBO. Born and raised in Kenya, she now lives in the USA with her family.
Growing up, Emma faced the heartbreaking possibility of missing out on high school simply because her family couldn’t afford it. But one generous donor changed everything not only for her but her whole family by empowering her mother with sewing skills and a job as an assistant teacher at an International school. This support and exposure to a new world not only opened the doors to a prestigious national high school but it also ignited a journey of resilience and renewed purpose to dream bigger for Emma. She went on to thrive academically and ultimately build a successful career in technology.
However, throughout her career, she has witnessed firsthand the urgent need for greater diversity and inclusion in technology leadership. More often than not, she is usually the only woman in the room. As such, she makes it her life long mission to educate, mentor and economically empower underserved women and rural girls to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Math related careers and lead for change.
Her commitment to bridging the gender digital divide has led her across continents, from USA, Nicaragua to Kenya, where she has trained educators and facilitators in implementing gender-sensitive STEM programs that spark curiosity and build confidence in young girls.
She holds a Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems, dual Bachelor’s degrees in Healthcare and Business Administration, and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Emma finds joy in spending time with her family, travelling, nature hikes, and immersing herself in new cultures. These experiences continually fuel her global perspective, and passion for inclusive innovation.
